An Interview with SHALIF

On the outside it’s not hard to grasp what to see when you lay eyes on SHALIF. However when listening to his music it’s hard to tell exactly who he is. An entrapment of 80’s funk and modern pop he collides a world that seldom goes untouched. There are rules when an artist enters this world like Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, etc to collide the nostalgic vibrations with the new rhythms and blend something so irresistible the ear can’t deny. Shalif didn’t find his way as your traditional R&B or Pop singer but as a the worlds first self proclaimed POP&B artists. Coming up in Brooklyn NY, he endured the streets of the city as he found his way. Rising out of the cemented pavement of New York with hopes to grave the billboards he once stared at as a child. Having met so many ends. He believes It’s only his beginning.

When did you start making music? What inspired you to pursue it professionally?
I wrote my first song at 10. I remember it being horrible but You Couldn’t help but try when you was coming up in the 90s. As a kid I remember flipping from Michael Jackson and RunDMC records trying figure out a way to merge their sounds and blend together a masterpiece of my own. So writing music was an expression of what we took in. Whether it was Bad or Good.
So To recreate that for someone else is what I do it for. To inspire a writer the same as I was inspired. We get paid in proportion to the problems we solve, So to do that for people who look for inspiration in music means the world to me.

Has being raised in Brooklyn, NY influenced your sound or approach?
Yes, but not like you would think. Anyone Coming from Brooklyn knows coming from here means you know how to adapt. You have to be mentally tough. There’s are bright lights in NY and we all feel that vibrancy ,
But The ability to adapt to any sound I like. And then create my version of it. that’s the Brooklyn in me. That’s seeing something I like and figuring out a way to get it

What can you tell us about your latest release, “RainFalls”?
I created the entire song In my head before the any of it was made or written.
I didn’t want to call my producer until I got off the emotional roller coaster I was on but When I finally got off I called I was like a mad man Explaining each emotion in sequence so that I could recreate the episode of my life. I usually love a uptempo vibe song but I feel like listeners need to know my story, this story has way more downs than ups
Rainfalls is just one downside to my story.

What can we expect from you in 2021?
Expect Some of the best music that you’re going to consistently hear this year. You’re going to see me begin to chart. I know that’s a tall task, but if Cant limit myself. I’m here to stay. I’ll be pushing New music each month in 2021. So my bar is pretty high this year
