Clown is the new single from Indie Pop artist, Alex Woburn. Alex Woburn is a singer-songwriter from London. Woburn has been dedicating his time to growing his audience and his musical career. In fact, Woburn was a finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest in 2020. Alex Woburn’s work reached the finals in the Pop Category.
Released on Valentine’s Day 2021, Clown is the first official single from Alex Woburn’s debut album, Self Therapy. Amazingly, Alex Woburn wrote this single in 7 minutes, during a period of sadness due to relationship issues. Alex notes: “I was so embarrassed about how I had been behaving with this guy (you know when you like someone so much and all logic goes out the window!).” Woburn then decided to write this song in a short 7 minutes, making it all worthwhile! The artist tells us that Clown ‘magically healed’ them from the heartbreak!
Opening the track is a light and poppy track on the guitar and an infectious backbeat. Once the vocals come in, we are given the first glimpse into what Alex Woburn’s style is really like. With lyrics depicting scenes that we can all relate to, Woburn’s lyricism discusses what’s it’s like to be embarrassed by your behavior in front of your crush.
The sudden shift in key change in the song takes the piece in a surprising direction, only enhancing the interesting elements. After this, we are treated with a heavier guitar that brings us into a more rock-inspired song.
Clown utilises a variety of musical elements from Pop, Rock, and more, giving the piece a multi-layered approach. This short and catchy song has something for every listener!
