‘Fortress’ is the latest track by Belarus-based rock band Flame of Life. The band is known for their experimental sounds that don’t quite fit into any singular genre, thus creating their own, called Lazer. With ‘Fortress’ they stand true to this boundary pushing style. Lead singer Fazer’s unique guttural vocal style lends a strong punk element to the track,while the melody is derivative of nu-metal. At the midway mark, a bitpop-inspired bridge takes the listener by surprise, yet somehow thematically fits. While the term Avant Garde gets thrown around so often it begins to lose it’s meaning, the 2-minute long ‘Fortress’ is truly deserving of that description.
