Algerian-born indie songwriter based in the Bay Area, Hakim has a passion for jangly rock, psych rock, and 60s rock. His songwriting style revolves around one concept only: mesmerizing melodies. His first album, Dreamer-In-Chief (2019), is an indie pop opus full of whimsy and reveries, and which, in style, is reminiscent of the 90s. Hakim has recently recorded over 20 songs with members of R.E.M., Big Star, Throwing Muses, Guillemots, and Let’s Active.
Sail Away is the very first song Hakim wrote, over 15 years ago. Inspired by his Berber roots, this song embodies his passion for psychedelia and oriental melodies. Recorded at GCR Audio in Buffalo with members of Grosh and Goo Goo Dolls symphonist/pianist Richie English, Sail Away captures the essence of Hakim Briki’s formative years as a songwriter.
