Hailing from Upstate New York, Headless Relatives work with mainly acoustic instrumentation and a ‘DIY’ attitude to their work. The band note they place a high level of emphasis on ‘narrative (particularly from the perspective of oddballs and outcasts).’ This theme is certainly concurrent throughout their entire musical discography, particularly in their new single, The Future.
The Future takes its inspiration from The Amazing Criswell, a psychic who narrated the movie ‘Plan 9 from Outer Space.’ The lyrics delve into Criswell’s perspective on life, producing a weird but wonderful musical experience for the listener. Utilizing grunge style guitar and a vocal style like that of REM, The Future perfectly combines a unique narrative story with classic rock themes.
