1. Engage Your Audience

Get Reviews:
iTunes/Apple Podcasts still accounts for 70% of all podcast listens. It’s a platform that people listen to podcasts but discover them. Getting positive reviews helps your podcast rank higher in searches. Besides Apple, it’s helpful to get reviews on other platforms that allow them. It can be worth verbally asking your fans to go leave a review to help spread the word.

Build an Email List:
If you already have an audience and followers, consider running a quick survey to understand their demographic, how they found you, and why they listen. This information helps you understand what marketing channels are working and which ones aren’t. You can also use this as an opportunity to source new content ideas and get buy in from your audience.

Run a Newsletter:
Once you start to build your email list, give them updates on new episodes and major updates from your podcast. Send emails at least once a month but never more than once a week. If you can, use enticing subject lines to make followers more likely to engage. Lastly, offer something of value to your subscribers every once in a while as a thank you.

Interact of Social Media:
When creating content on social media, consider asking questions that prompt people to engage with you. If they do, make sure to reciprocate the love. Reply to them, like their post, and/or retweet. Also, consider engaging and sharing forums or messaging boards. These can include sites like Reddit or industry/community specific platforms.

Run a Giveaway Contest:
Consider running a giveaway for listeners that leave reviews. For example, “Every other week we’ll select one user who leaves a 5-star review and giveaway X.” If you have a budget, you could giveaway swag like a T-shirt or stickers. If you don’t yet have the budget, you could offer a shout out or a short guest spot on the podcast.
