Modern Culture is the fantastic new release from Phantom Electric. Phantom Electric is a rock band began by musicians Nick Whitson and Kristofer Sampson. The rest of the band is made up of a rotating number of local Atlanta musicians. The band notes that Phantom Electric will ‘unapologetically push the dimensions of modern rock music however they please.’ If you are intrigued to hear their style of rock music then read on!
Modern Culture opens with a sparse accompaniment of bass, drumkit, and haunting vocal snippets. Once the singing starts we are also treated with the guitar accompaniment. The heavy punk rock style guitar used is synonyms with Phantom Electric’s style. Themes within the lyrics include censorship, persecution, and revolution. As the band has described it, it is a play on the ‘modern socio-political atmosphere in the United States.’
If you’re interested in hearing some new and fresh rock music with a hint of social and political commentary in the lyrics then Modern Culture would be a great listen for you. The musical elements are reminiscent of old rock music, while the lyrics speak of the current, modern world we live in.
