For those who don’t know The Academic, they are an Irish Indie band that cannot be beat. This group has an electric beachy feel to their music that is perfect for the summer. Recently they have released their latest project, Community Spirit. Comprised of five tracks, it is a gorgeous mix of upbeat and deep. If you haven’t checked out this EP yet, you’re certainly missing out.Â
The lead single on Community Spirit is a song called “Kids (Don’t End Up Like Me)”. While it’s an energetic and loveable song, this track is really about overcoming failure. Each of The Academic’s songs have a meaning that is easy to connect to, happy or otherwise. Their entire project is about coming together with others and it is simply amazing.
Because this EP was put together over a global Pandemic, the band had to return to their roots. This was a full Bedroom Pop album, 100% created, mixed and mastered in the homes of the members. Knowing this makes the project even more impressive.
All in all, Community Spirit is an EP that you can listen to on repeat all day. It is an amazingly well done project and an exciting addition to this band’s discography. Each of these songs have the potential to be the jam of the summer, you just have to decide which one.
