For those who don’t know, how long have you been making music and how would you describe your style?
We met back in the nineties writing garage pop music. After the pandemic hit, we discussed music again and kicked off this adventure. Is “creative” a style, Is “vibe” a style? We cover an alternative spectrum of styles in the rock, pop, dance and disco realm and lean heavily into ’80s brit pop vocals and melodies .
Could you briefly describe your music making process?
We capture music ideas in GarageBand. Twisting knobs, working with beats and samples is a fun process. With some base arrangements the songs then get “the kitchen sink” of melody lines treatment, usually in an attic closet space with friends. We establish a vibe and then discuss layers, instrumentation, additional vocal melodies. Layers lead to music collaborations, bake at E85 degrees, then rinse and repeat.
What can you tell us about your latest release?
Oceans Away is a continuation of our first two EPs. Locked down, mental break, creative escape, music process refinement. While music is left to interpretation there are some themes blended in. Hope, spirituality, future state and altered state perhaps. We have strong ideas about the meanings of our songs, but ultimately we want the listener to have their own unique experience with their interpretation, hence why our lyrics remain abstract.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would you choose?
Lennon, Morrison, Cobain, Bowie, Elvis, Freddie – oh wait, we did… check out video for “These Are the Good Times.”
What do you have planned creatively for the upcoming year?
A live performance, EPs. While an album was a novel idea we prefer moving forward with EPs and singles, get the ideas out sooner. We want to be able to also create visual art video content to accompany each song so we can create these little auditory and visual vignettes, that stand alone, and mark time as a single project in our life’s timeline.
