An Interview with F R Music Project

How would you describe your style and approach to readers who may be unfamiliar?
My best intentions are to tell a musical story where hopefully the listener  can paint a picture in their mind and experience the  emotion and energy I am trying to exchange!

What track would you play for a new listener if they’ve never heard your music before?
That’s a hard questions our music is eclectic as far as our artistic composition. so at first thought I would  Say  Fred’s cover of the cure love song.

I love his arrangement  It takes us back to our roots. It has a great vibe.  As far as our original tracks I would say Romeo Cowboy for our country lovers. It showcases our energy and hell it’s a great dance tune.

How did the both of you meet and what prompted you to collaborate?
I was frontman for a rock reggae band Facility. We were looking for a lead guitar player. A co-worker said I know a guy. Meet Fred!! he joins our band.

When our Bass Player returned to Jamaica to teach music We disbanded but Fred and I continued to perform solo and as a duo.

We formed F R Music Project in 2017 as a songwriter’s collaborative with our mission of supporting independent musicians, singers and songwriters. The F&R experience is diversity: “We believe in opening the project to other musicians and allowing them to bring their own musical genius to the songs that we write, produce and perform. It also opens up more opportunities to support the mission of the F&R Music Project, which goes beyond the music.”

What can you tell us about your latest release, ‘Romeo Cowboy’?
Romeo Cowboy is a  dance tune you’re gonna move your feet. It’s a lot of fun to sing. We recorded at Top Tracks Studio, Nashville Feb 2020 right before the world shut down with Music and Film Producer, Mark Duvall at the controls.  Mark wanted the vocals  cut on a RCA 44 a classic mic for Sure no pun intended. I felt the history as I stood in front of that Microphone. That such greats as Elvis and Sinatra crooned into with  it’s Rich lows, silky smooth mids and highs. It just made you want to sing your heart out. Just awesome!

Romeo Cowboy will be featured as one of the ten original songs from their upcoming collection of works entitled “Snake in the Grass.”

How did the song come about and what do you hope listeners take away from it.
I wanted to write a country song I was always a big  Lyle Lovett  fan – Cowboy man from his first album was always a favorite and I wanted to write a song in that style. The other caveat is that the girl that introduced me to Lyle’s music is the girl in the story of Romeo , well most of the story… my songs have a little bit of every relationship peppered here and there in the story. I am happy ending guy however that not the way it works out in most off my songs … Go figure! I wanted to write a traditional country song that made you want to dance, while telling the sad story of lost love while on the road as a traveling troubadour.

What does the typical songwriting and music creation process look for you all?
‘It’s different each time sometimes the words just flows and the song just arrives like a little Easter egg a gift I call it. Other times I hear or read a phase in a book or conversation that inspires me to write about that subject. Sometimes the music comes first and the words later it depends on my energy.

Where do you draw inspiration to create music?
From many sources…… from the love, the loss, happiness, and sorrow of life.

What’s your favorite track to perform live?
Tampa Rain….. we always close our shows with it.

So much fun to play and sing and to top it off it has a 15 minutes guitar solo well maybe not 15 but close.
