Jesse Neo is a 23-year-old singer, songwriter, DJ and producer from Australia that blends Eurodance, pop and a hint of new wave into a stylish, cool sound where the various stylistic elements intersect. The twenty-year-old British-Australian commenced violin, voice and piano lessons when he was seven.
For those who don’t know, how long have you been making music and how would you describe your style?
I have been making music since I was around 7 or 8, but only stepped into the EDM and pop scene in 2016. My style is experimental blend between electronic, pop and classical elements to give my songs a wholesome yet mysterious vibe. A lot of people have told me that my songs are very unique, especially with the way I play with the vocals and merging different frequencies of beats together.
Could you briefly describe your music making process?
I usually create the beats first. Since I specialize in electronic music, I use Ableton and Pro Tools. The process can take from an hour to up to a week, depending how inspired I am. Then I would overlay the beats with a melody, and then write the lyrics. My ideas for my lyrics come from anywhere. There are times words just pop into my head as I’m out and about on the train, or passing a poster. Sometimes I would just sit still and wait for inspiration to come. When everything is set, I take my tracks to the studio and spend up to 12 hours in isolation producing the track.
What can you tell us about your latest single ‘Sex Magic.’
This latest release has been something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. In fact, I’ve been anticipating so long for it that everything fell into place very easily. I will be releasing my album and a music video next year.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would you choose?
I would love to collaborate with Michael Jackson. It would be fun to merge his pop mastery with some electronic drops to create a modern masterpiece.
What do you have planned creatively for the upcoming year?
As I’ve said, I will be filming a music video. I have also started a music collaboration platform known as Gemtracks for people to buy beats. Since I started making music, a lot of other artists have asked me to create beats for them, so decided to create a marketplace for just betas.
What track would you play for a new listener if they’ve never heard your music before?
I would play Sex Magic. I feel like all my experience and mistakes have lead me to create this latest track.
Where would be your dream venue to perform at and why?
I would love to play in a festival, such as Tomorrowland. It’s such a magical place with music lovers from around the world gathered to share their interests.

Again, Sex Magic means the most to me. In fact, it is my most streamed track, so I think a lot of people find meaning in it too.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I am hoping to turn Gemtracks into a complete musician resource for anyone in the industry. In the future, I will be using my experience to release services to find music producers, book studios and even submit music to playlists.
