An Interview with KILBRIDE

For our latest interview we spoke with Canadian Emo-Rap artist KILBRIDE. The rapper is fresh of their release of a new EP entitled “Falling…”. Read the full interview and learn more about KILBRIDE below.

For those who don’t know, how long have you been making music and how would you describe your style?
I have been making music under my last name Kilbride since 2019, but started rapping/singing around 2017. I would describe my style as a cross between emo and psychedelic with a focus on mood and lyricism. I value wordplay, poeticism, and having fun with what you’re doing. That’s why I also like to add a comedic value to some of my songs to add some relief within some of the seriousness.

Could you briefly describe your music making process?
My music making process consists of smoking a bong rip, relaxing and putting on some beats. Either ones from YouTube, one’s I have produced, or one’s from friends. I usually will write the lyrics beforehand just when they come to mind and then try different flows on different beats until I find it sticks. Other times I just freestyle over the beat and if I can find either a nice flow or set of lyrics, then I start the writing process there.

What can you tell us about your latest project?
“Falling…” was an experiment of mine where I wanted to push my own boundaries when it came to mixing/engineering a sound from minimal equipment. Also, I wanted to go back to my roots, which was lofi and acoustic beats mainly. But now I feel I have come such a long way in my musical ability since then so, I wanted to see if I could create the sound I originally envisioned. I feel I have achieved that and can’t wait for everyone to see what I have in store for the future.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would you choose?
Any artist, past or present eh? Fuck, that’s a hard question. And honestly, I feel my answer will change multiple times over the years every time I’m asked, but as of right now, I would have to say Dr. Dre. That man is a fucking genius. I would love to see his writing/production process and just see what magic could happen. Most definitely.

What do you have planned creatively for the upcoming year?
The upcoming year has a lot in stored. I’m personally going to be continuing to focus on my sound. Expect many singles to come and I have plans for a full-length album before the year ends. Also, I have recently joined a collective named “666” and I can’t speak much on it, but anticipate darkness in the future. That is all. 💔👁
