When did you start making music? What was the catalyst for you to pursue it as a career?
I come from a family of musicians. My father Guy R. Jean, is a famous Haitian singer. My aunt, Sandra Jean, created the first all female band in Haiti called “Riske”. My cousin Moses Jean is also a music producer. I had started by writing poetry. I decided to turn some of them into songs. Most of my poetry dealt with my own personal experiences. This was a way for me to cope. However, in 2011 I decided to promote three of them as songs. I submitted them to several places on the internet, and Tate Music Group (which is now closed) accepted my music and helped me to create my first album, Obsession.

What do you hope people take away from your recent project “Where Do We Go From Here?”
“Where Do We Go From Here?” is a social impact/message album. I created this album because I wanted to convey my emotions and the emotions of others as well. I would like people to put themselves in other people’s shoes. I am not asking people to change their minds. But I am asking the listeners to be more compassionate and loving. I also wanted to point out that we are all responsible for how the world has become.

The track ‘Mother Earth’ caught our attention as both poignant and timely. How did the track come about?
My album had a theme. So, I wanted to address several world related topics, and the environment was one of them. I wanted it to be dramatic and cinematic. It needed to demonstrate the pain and the urgency of what is being done to the earth. I worked with producer Alexi Von Guggenberg to create something that would have some type of impact.

What inspires your songwriting and creation process?
My personal experiences were inspirations for my earliest material. However, as I have grown in the music industry, I want my music to have a purpose. I want to be able to make a difference. It doesn’t mean that I won’t continue to write love songs. But I want to make an impact in the world. So, now I try to write songs that about how we affect one other and our world and how we need to be the change that we want to see.

Had the current pandemic situation impacted you as an artist?
I’ve been lucky that I have been able to telework for my day job. But, I had some gigs that were lined up, that fell through, as expected. But, it has allowed me to create more music.

What can our followers do to support you and independent artists?
